Dr. MacKillop received Bachelor of Sciences (Magna Cum Laude) and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees from Cornell University in 2000 and 2004, respectively. He then completed a rotating internship at Tufts University (2004-2005) and a residency in veterinary neurology/neurosurgery at North Carolina State University (2005-2008). During his residency, he was voted resident of the year and was awarded the ACVIM Resident Research Award. In 2008, Dr. MacKillop became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Neurology) and took a position at Pittsburgh Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center (PVSEC) where he continues to practice.
Dr. MacKillop has numerous publications including an MRI atlas of normal canine brain anatomy and an overview of the MRI appearance of brain malformations. He is a reviewer for a number of veterinary journal and is on the editorial board for the Czech veterinary journal. He has lectured at both local, regional and national veterinary conferences.
In his spare time, Dr. MacKillop enjoys horror movies and video game collecting. He has three daughters (Phoebe, Matilda and Tabitha), four cats and an English bulldog with a cleft palate (Tulip).

Carlo Siracusa obtained his DVM from the University of Messina, Italy, and his PhD from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain, defending a thesis on perioperative stress in dogs and the effect of pheromone therapy. He completed his residency in Animal Behavior at the School of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania, where he is currently an Associate Professor of Clinical Animal Behavior and Welfare, and the Director of the Animal Behavior Service. Carlo is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists, of which he is the President, and by the European College of Animal Welfare and Behavior Medicine. His research interests are focused on canine stress evaluation and control; canine and feline temperament evaluation; prognostic factors and treatment outcome of behavior problems; behavior and cognitive changes in dogs with medical disease.

Dr. Markeya Williams is a native of Northern New Jersey. In 2002, she completed her undergraduate studies in Animal & Poultry Sciences at Tuskegee University and in 2006 obtained her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Williams spent the majority of her career in academia (Cornell, UPenn, and Harvard) where she served as clinical veterinarian and surgical faculty.
Dr. Williams is most passionate about exotic animal medicine, comparative anatomy, pain management, and soft tissue surgery. Her colleagues often tell clients that “She will see any species that walks, flies, slithers, or swims through the door of the clinic”. She has previously served as Medical Director at both VCA Whitman and VCA Hanson Animal Hospitals on the South Shore of Massachusetts and now supports both as a Senior clinical/surgical Associate. She also supports several other clinics closer to her home in the city of Boston.
In her spare time, Dr. Williams enjoys international travel with her husband, food writing/blogging/food photography and spending lazy weekends with her 2 senior rescues- Forest “Kneecaps” (a 13 year old Puggle) and Mackie “MackDaddy (a 13 year old Shih tzu).

Dr. Alison Diesel is a Clinical Associate Professor in dermatology at Texas A&M University. She graduated from Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2005 then completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center in Norwalk, Connecticut. She worked as an emergency clinician for one year prior to beginning a three-year residency in dermatology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine. She became board certified (ACVD) in 2010 and joined the faculty at A&M in the fall. Her main clinical interests lie in feline dermatoses, expanding knowledge of the cutaneous microbiome in companion animals, and exploring radiation therapy as an alternative treatment option for dermatological conditions. She is additionally heavily invested in improving and promoting wellness in the veterinary profession.

Dr. Justine Lee is a board-certified veterinary specialist in both emergency critical care (DACVECC) and toxicology (DABT). Dr. Lee attended veterinary school at Cornell University and completed her internship at Angell (Boston, MA). She completed her fellowship and residency in emergency and critical care at University of Pennsylvania. Previously, she was on faculty at University of Minnesota (2003-2008) and the head of an animal poison control center (2008-2013). Dr. Mark M. Smith received his veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1982. He is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) and the American Veterinary Dental College (AVDC). He was professor of surgery and dentistry at VA Tech from 1988-2004. Dr. Smith is the recipient of numerous awards including the Norden Distinguished Teacher Award, AVMA Award for Research Excellence, American Veterinary Dental Society Hill's Research and Education Award, and the American Veterinary Dental College Service Award. He is co-author of Atlas of Approaches for General Surgery of the Dog and Cat and is also Editor Emeritus of the Journal of Veterinary Dentistry. Dr. Smith is a Founding Fellow in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for both the AVDC and ACVS. He is in private specialty practice at the Center for Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Surgery in Gaithersburg, MD.

Morning - Nutrition Assessment Deep Dive • The morning session will take an extended look into the 2021 AAHA Nutrition and Weight Management Guidelines with a focus on the fundamentals of a nutrition assessment, obesity prevention, and science driven communication skills. Well-meaning pet owners can become entrenched in and confused by certain feeding practices. This lecture will review some common nutrition myths and misperceptions as well as provide some communication tips to help make potentially contentious conversations into effective ones. Afternoon - Focus on Gastrointestinal Disease Chronic Diarrhea in Dogs – Nutrition Tips & Pearls • Dietary approaches to canine chronic diarrhea should be systematic with review of the patient’s diet history and a complete nutritional assessment. This lecture will review the common dietary approaches to canine chronic diarrhea including highly digestible, fiber enhanced, and novel/hydrolyzed protein diets. Recommendations will be provided on how to implement these diet strategies and other nutrient interventions. Reseeding the lawn – Probiotics in clinical practice • Probiotics are non-pathogenic, living bacteria or yeast used to correct dysbiosis in the gut associated with many disease processes. A variety of diseases have been investigated in veterinary medicine with the strongest evidence of efficacy associated with gastrointestinal disease. Martha Cline is a graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. She completed a rotating internship at Oradell Animal Hospital in Paramus, NJ and then returned to the University of Tennessee for a small animal clinical nutrition residency. She is board certified with the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Nutrition). In December 2021, she joined the Professional Resources Group as a Veterinary Communications Manager at Nestlé Purina PetCare. She previously practiced clinical nutrition at Red Bank Veterinary Hospitals in New Jersey (2013-2021) and was member of the Specialty Advisory Board for NVA/Compassion First Pet Hospitals (2019-2021).
Dr. Cline is the past president of the American Academy of Veterinary Nutrition. She has lectured on topics surrounding veterinary nutrition at regional, national, and international conferences. Dr. Cline is also an author and co-author of several book chapters and peer-reviewed articles in veterinary nutrition. In 2021, she served at the Chair of the AAHA Task Force for the Nutrition and Weight Management Guidelines. She is also the co-editor of the textbook “Obesity in the Dog and Cat.” In her spare time, she enjoys running with her English pointer, Dave. She also shares her home with her husband and two orange cats, Jake and Charles.
